Dr. John Randolph Carver

Dr. Carver, a retired Presbyterian minister - who passed away in 1956, left a lifetime legacy to the citizens of Clovis. Dividends from his trust fund annually generate about $18,000. He was a man of mystery - he had no known survivors.

Dr. Carver was born in Dayton, Ohio on Sept. 8, 1870. He preached in Ohio and Oklahoma before moving to New Mexico. He settled on land about two miles east of the community of St. Vrain, which is located between Clovis and Melrose.

He organized churches throughout New Mexico and worked at banks in Estancia and Grady.
